Online shops for Teaching supplies

1/ Scavenger hunt

Use this game to test vocabulary or practice vocabulary in the Warm-up stage and practice listening skills for all students, especially weak students.

To perform the game in 3-5 minutes, the teacher must first prepare and bring some teaching supplies to the class (the names of the objects are the words to review.)

– The teacher places objects with names related to the lesson on a chair or table in the middle of the class (in an easy-to-see position).

– Divide the class into two groups A and B. Pick about 4 to 6 students from each group on the board and ask the number of students representing these two groups to stand far apart. Assign numbers to students.

– Asking the game request: The teacher will name the object in English and the students must get the correct object with that name.

– When the teacher calls a number, the two students with that number in the two teams representing the two groups run quickly to get the object. Whoever is faster and gets the correct object that the teacher calls will score 1 point.

The team with the most points wins.

2/ Sentence order

Use this game to review some grammar structures in Language focus or review lessons. Duration is from 5-7 minutes.

  • Teaching supplies: The teacher prepares paper cards (can use cardboard or a wall calendar to make) or plastic cards (cut from a plastic board that is widely available at bookstores to use more times). The screen size is large or small depending on the size of the screen on the content to be examined.

The teacher prepares some sentences to review and writes each word of these sentences on a card (depending on the student’s level to prepare long or short, difficult or easy sentences). .

– Divide the class into two groups A and B. Depending on the number of words in each sentence, let the teacher call the number of students in each group to the front of the class (for example, if a sentence has 6 words, call 6 students).

– The teacher shuffles the words in the sentence before distributing to the number of students called to the board, one for each student.

– Within a certain amount of time (eg 30 seconds), these students have to bring their words to the front and arrange themselves in teams to get a complete and correct sentence.

– The team that arranges correctly and fastest gets 2 points from the teacher.

The teacher summed up: The team with the most points wins.

3/ Spelling Game

This game is used to test or review some vocabulary and practice listening and speaking skills at the Warm-up stage. Play time is 3-5 minutes.

– The teacher divides the class into 2 rows of students (horizontal or vertical) to play.

– The teacher introduces the game content that the teacher will read a word and the students must be able to write the word on the board and then spell it. The top two children of the two teams win the right to play first.

– The teacher reads to the first two children in the two rows a word and these two children must run quickly to the board and write the word on the board then spell it.

– Students who write incorrectly or spell incorrectly will not get points. If the answer is correct and the spelling is correct, that team gets 1 point.

– After answering, whether it’s right or wrong, the student must sit down to save the next player’s turn.

– Take turns playing until the teacher has gone all the words to check or until the time assigned by the teacher has expired. Teacher sums up: The team with more points is the winner

4/ Car racing game

This is a very good game that helps students learn while playing but also plays a role as an effective method to review vocabulary. Teachers can use this game at the beginning or at the end of a lesson to reinforce knowledge or review previous lessons. The duration is from 5-7 minutes.

The teacher can do it on the board or prepare it on the extra board. Draw three straight lines to create two parallel tracks and divide the tracks into equal rectangles (Students can do it on scratch paper) to play. The more teams the more tracks you have to create.

– Initially, two “racers” (for example, for number 1, write “kite” and number 2 write “cat”), then the first player will write the word whose first letter is the last letter of the opponent’s word.

– The race will end when a racer has a “tire flat” (writes the wrong word or repeats the word in front, or runs out of gas (can’t find the next word anymore).

– In this game, the teacher can judge, score, and divide the class into two teams to race against each other or two individuals.

5/ Guessing word game

The objective of this game is to review vocabulary and is done at the beginning of the lesson. Duration: 5 minutes.

– The teacher writes the crosswords on the board. Depending on the words that the teacher prepares to test to write the appropriate crossword. Each letter is a cell.

– The teacher divides the class into two teams. The assistant (teacher or student) takes a word according to a topic to be tested and then writes on the board or on paper a number of squares corresponding to the number of letters of that word.

– Players will guess one letter at a time, if that letter is in the crossword, the game owner will write that letter in the correct position. Each correct guess will score 1 point.

– During the game, the team that finds the correct answer and reads the word correctly will score 2 points. Conversely, the team will lose after five incorrect guesses (The number of times is determined by the owner and the player) without finding a correct letter.

Unlike VTJ’s recently introduced games, Circus Shuffle Cups Game has a different gameplay but is still extremely interesting.

Why should you play the Circus Shuffle Cups Game?

Circus Shuffle Cups Game- interactive customizable ESL game

For the same reasons as many of VTJ’s other carefully selected and collected games, which include:

– Highly applicable, extremely useful for online classes. Effects in the game are done very well, guaranteed to bring excitement and newness to your online learning session.

– Easy to monitor scores and to edit the content. The game also comes with vivid visuals and lively transition effects.

– When the cups are shuffled, students will not be able to tell which cup contains the bomb and which cup contains the high score, so the selection is purely based on guesswork, making the game interesting but still novel .

– Suitable for all types of content: grammar, vocabulary, word meaning, etc.

How to play the Circus Shuffle Cups Game?

– Students divide into teams to play. If the class is large, or if the class is less than 4 people, each can play on their own.

– Students choose one number to start answering the quiz, and when they give the right answer, the teacher proceeds to shuffle the cup and let them choose.

– The students are able to see what are inside each cup, but that doesn’t help them much to make a wise choice.

– In each question page in the Circus Shuffle Cups Game, there is a Clown head. When each team finishes their turn, go back to the main page by pressing that Clown head.

The most common rewards are the coins that value from 1-2 points. Besides, there are some other special rewards like bombs, or Thieves…

– The icons inside the cups represent different rewards as below:

Swap points with one of the opponent teams          Lose 2 points            Get 4 points              Lose all points

Download the game HERE! Have fun with your class!

  4. During the lecture, sometimes stop to ask students if they can hear well, see the teacher’s shared screen or have any questions.
  5. When students are online with both phones and computers, ask them to turn off the mic to avoid echo (sound echoes, causing headaches for attendees), when students want to speak, use the feature “Raise hand” which is included in online class organizers.
  6. Teachers should be comfortable during teaching and remember that their students are Generation Z, they were born and raised with technology, so feel free to ask them for help with technology. For example, teachers should empower students to make warm-up games with Kahoot!, Quizizz… The teacher should only be the one monitoring the gameplay and content, not the player.

Why should you play this game?

ESL Game Frozen PowerPoint Game for Disney's fans

For the same reasons as many of VTJ’s other carefully selected and collected games, the Frozen PowerPoint Game is:

– Highly applicable, extremely useful for online classes. It helps students become more interested and focused on the lecture/practice part through quizzes.

– Easy to monitor scores and to edit the content. The game also comes with great visuals and vivid sound effects

– What makes this game unique is that it has a scoreboard where you can go back after each answer to edit each team’s score.

– Suitable for all types of content: grammar, vocabulary, word meanings, etc.

How to play the Frozen PowerPoint Game?

Rules:

– The gameplay is quite similar to other games introduced by VTJ:

– Students divide into teams to play. If the class is large, or if the class is less than 4 people, let them play individually.

– Students choose 1 question box and answer, if the answer is correct, their team gets a random reward

How to play:

As always click a letter on the menu to take you to a question. Click the correct answer to see the reward slide. Six of them have frozen hearts, 5 of them have mystery ice cubes, and the rest of them are just points (4-6 points each). If you click a wrong answer it will simply disappear.

Frozen PowerPoint Game: Olaf found something!

Click on the frozen logo to return to the menu slide. As for the question slides (which do not have a frozen logo) if no one guesses the correct answer you can click on the picture of Elsa in the corner to return to the menu without seeing the points.

When it comes to the frozen hearts be careful to wait until the points have completely disappeared before clicking the next heart. You can click and get more points until it says “bomb.” Each one has a different number of possible points, and they can stop at any time and keep all the points they have gathered. If they get the bomb though, they will lose all of the points that they have at that time.

Before playing the game you can put your own questions and answers into the PowerPoint. If you do this the question or picture goes in the big box and you need to put 1 correct and 3 incorrect answers in the small answer boxes. Make sure that you put the correct answer on the spot that says “Correct!.”

Each stone takes you to different rewards

Another way is to put nothing into the PowerPoint and just come with a list of multiple-choice questions in hand. Read a question to the students and if they guess wrong click one of the wrong answer buttons, and read the question again to let another team try. If they guess right then click the correct answer button. This is also a great way to have them practice their listening skills, and it makes less work for you.

Using this method you do not need to have 26 questions, and you can choose the order in which you ask them. The game is over when you ask the last question.

*Slides 5 and 6 are prettier if you delete the instruction boxes. You can delete them without any negative effect on the PowerPoint.

Make your slides impeccable with these 4 basic tips while preparing an online lesson:

Download 10 stunning slides for your ESL class

Download 10 stunning slides for your ESL class

1/ Slide layout

– The design of the slide matches the objects on the slide

– The slide must have a title, the title needs to be attached to the Layout.

– A slide should not have more than one topic, no more than 6 sub-contents in 1 topic.

– A content usually no more than 2 lines.

– Consistent language, consistent colors, consistent style.

– Use appropriate colors and images, appropriate templates.

*Color wheel based dithering rules:

-> Adjacent colors are in harmony with each other: Yellow – Green.

-> Colors opposite each other are contrasting colors.

(Contrasting colors increase readability (Example: Organe on Blue)

2/ Font – font style – effects on Slide:

– Use easy-to-read fonts (Arial, Tahoma, Times New Roman)

– Do not use too many effects, effects on slides must be in sync with each other.

– Do not use all capital letters.

– Do not mix bold and italic.

– Italics are used for quotations, highlighting the main content, ideas, titles of books, newspapers, magazines, etc.

3/ Background:

Color arrangement is also crucial

– Use the same background for slides.

– Red and orange are high energy colors but can make it difficult to focus.

– Green, blue, brown… are colors with softer energy but do not attract strong attention.

– Red and green colors are difficult for people who are color blind. Avoid bright colors on a white background.

4/ Images, multimedia objects on slides

– The human brain has the ability to process images faster, so many new teaching methods focus on presenting problems in pictures to help learners absorb easier and remember longer.

– Start by replacing phrases with pictures, for example: instead of saying “phones are so advanced these days”, look for an image of a smartphone on the slide. Of course, you also need to research who the audience is to be able to choose the image accordingly.

– Images should be positioned in accordance with the content (if any), be creative, break the position and style (Picture Styles)

– Multimedia files such as videos and photos will make your slides richer and more attractive to students.

Here are 10 slides that are extremely lively and diverse in design, making it easy for you to choose one for your ESL class.

One thing for sure is that this game is not for everyone. If you consider yourself as a conservative and serious-minded type of teacher, the Poop game wouldn’t be a choice. However, we believe you might find it considerably helpful in spicing up your lesson, and at the same time provide good practice to your students when it comes to teen and kid classes.

Why should you play the Poop game?

– Highly applicable, extremely useful for online classes. It helps students to get loose and become more relaxed while learning online.
– The funny yet somewhat crude sound effects may make some people uncomfortable but can be extremely exciting to some cheeky students. The more emotions you create for the kids to play, the more enjoyable they will feel about the lesson, which makes it easier for them to consume the knowledge.

How to play the Poop game:

Rules:

– The gameplay is quite similar to other games introduced by VTJ:

– Students divide into teams to play. If the class is large, or if the class is less than 4 people, let them play individually.

– Students choose 1 question box and answer, if the answer is correct, their team gets a random reward.

The random rewards are as below:

Poo = points

Steal points Change points Lose all your points or

NUCLEAR!!!

In addition, other types of Poop that you can find in the Reward section can be Dancing poop, Pinkpoo, Poo-ple, Pixel Poo,… corresponding to the number of points they bring (each type of poop gives you certain points)

How to play:

1. After instructing how to play and calculate points for students, go to the main menu.

Ever heard of The poop game

2. Select 1 letter displayed on the screen, it will take you to the corresponding question.

3. After students answer, to show the answer, press anywhere on the screen.

4. If a team gives the correct answer, press the “✔” icon and you will discover the reward for that team.

5. If the answer is wrong, press “x” and it will take you to another question. If the answer is correct, press “✔” again to go to the score section.

6. Once the score has been saved, click this icon  to return to the main menu.

The star of this week is the Bomberman game, a game quite familiar to many people’s childhoods. How to play this game probably many people already know, but with the powerpoint version, it will probably be a little different from the traditional game version. Let’s take a look at the gameplay and how we can intergrate it into your online teaching:

Why should you play Bomberman game?

– The game is highly flexible, very easy to apply to any level, class, or age.

– The game can be customized according to the content of your lesson. Each question hidden behind the buttons is a multiple choice question, so you just need to edit these questions in the following slides.

– The instruction on how to play is presented clearly at the beginning, so you don’t need to spend a lot of effort to explain the rules to your students

– After finishing the game, which team has the highest points is the winner

How to play Bomberman game:

– Students divide into teams to play. If the class is large, or if the class is less than 4 people, let them play individually.

– Students choose 1 question box and answer, if the answer is correct, their team gets 1 point. (+1)

– In addition, they can also choose 1 bonus box from 35 boxes numbered from A-Z and from 1-9.

– There are three types of bonus boxes:

  • Box with question mark: very good or very bad
  • Gray box: Plus points
  • Brick: Mystery prize

Bomberman’s bonus box symbols

These bonus boxes are also one of the interesting elements that make this game appealling to players:

Hearts: + plus points, how many numbers in front of the heart corresponds to how many points are added
Bomberman sways: -minus points, how many numbers in front correspond to how many points are deducted
Two-way arrows: switch/ change points
Bomb: Bomb! (no points)
TNT symbol: Atomic bomb—> lose all the points you have.

You can also install some more sound files in each slide, for a more humorous and dramatic effect for each part.

THE SPACE RACE was recommended by the VTJ team because of its competitiveness and versatility. The rules of this game are also as simple as the other games’ we’ve suggested.

The main screen will have a sequence of numbers from 1-16, the players or teams take turns choosing the questions behind the numbers to answer. If the team that correctly answers the selected question, their “train” will have a chance to move forward once.

the planets- the SPACE RACE final

Why should you play THE SPACE RACE?

This game is suitable for all types of classes, online or offline, as well as the level and skills or knowledge you want your students to practice.

In addition, this game is especially suitable for younger students, as the astonishing special effects when the ships and flying saucers move among the space will make it impossible not to focus on the game.

How to play:

  • Make 2 teams
  • One team is the ‘Rocket’ and one team is the ‘Alien Ship’
  • The teams take turns in choosing a letter and then answering the question.
  • After answering the question, click on the screen to show the answer.
  • To go back to the main menu, click the Earth sign at the right bottom of the screen.
  • Click on the Rocket/  Alien Ship and it will move head in a chosen route (you will be amazed by the sophistication and complexity in the design of the components in this game)
  • If a team fails to answer a question, their ship/ rocket can’t move forward. The turn will also be given to the other team.

The first team to arrive at Mars is the winner.
